Archival Museum Solander Boxes
& other archival storage solutions and enclosures
Structure
Solander boxes are the standard in many museums and institutions for storage of prints, drawings, photographs, and any other works on paper. There durable boxes are designed with both protection and ease of use in mind. An interior lip to help seal the archival interior space from dust and rapid temperature and humidity changes. Thick exterior walls prevent damage from dropping and other possible handling mishaps. They lay flat for easy access and custom sizing allows storage of any object, no matter how big or small!
Materials
Our solander box trays are constructed out of low resin 5/16” basswood and 1/8” acid free euroboard. We use a pH neutral, natural based adhesive to adhere the acrylic-coated bookcloth and archival Tyvek to the exterior and interior of the boxes. High quality latches are attached to the exterior of the box to make sure the lid is always secure during transit. These latches are oriented so that the box lays completely flat on a table for ease of use and to maximize the safety of the art being handled. Label holder ensure easy organization and collection management.
